We’ve been suffering through a hot and humid few days at the beginning of breeding season. Praying the bulls can handle the heat and still do their job. We’re only running four bulls this year. All of these bulls were developed slowly with little to no grain so I believe their ability to do their job is superior to bulls who were grown fast with a high grain ration.
Bobby, the bull in the top photo we raised from a calf, is out of our black, Red Angus cow. He’s three years old. He’s in an 80 cow herd with Teddy, our South Poll bull in the photo below. Teddy is two.

Look at how slick Teddy is. He carries the “slick” gene which helps him stay cooler. So far, I see Teddy being more active than Bobby. We may get a lot of calves out of Teddy next year.

Above is Blackie, our calving ease sire from Rocky Road Farm Angus with his twenty heifers. He’s two years old.
Below is another bull from Rocky Road Farm Angus, a yearling named Driftless, freshly delivered, waiting to be turned out with his twenty first-calf heifers.
